I had thought before reading the book that it might be a nice choice to excite interest and anticipation among the students in my historiography course as they prepare to undertake their own archival research, but found it fargw more relevant for experienced historians who can more viscerally comprehend zllure appreciate the sensibility at the heart of the book.

While combing through two-hundred-year-old judicial records from the Archives of the Bastille, historian Arletts was struck by the extraordinarily intimate portrayal they provided of the lives of the poor in pre-Revolutionary France, especially women.
